FREMANTLE
FREMANTLE PRISON
GETTING AROUND
Fremantle, 30 minutes south
of Perth, is easily reached
by car, bus, train along the
Fremantle line, or cruise from
Elizabeth Quay. The city itself
is easily walkable.
FREMANTLE / WALYALUP
Fremantle is effortlessly cool.
It’s a place of creativity and
community - you can feel it the
moment you arrive. The sea breeze
drifts in from the Indian Ocean with
the scent of freshly roasted coffee
and sweet honeycake wafting
down the streets from the markets,
while the music of buskers echoes
through the streets. Look out for
Dockers fans as they spill out from
beer gardens, cheering on their
local football team.
Crowned Australia's Top Tourism
Town for 2025, Fremantle hums
with culture, character and coastal
charm. Discover the wonders of this
port city for yourself.
With so much history and
gloriously raucous stories along
the streets, what better way to
begin your journey in the heart
of Fremantle, than with a guided
walking tour. You’re guaranteed to
view this city through different eyes
once you’ve experienced a tour
with Two Feet & a Heartbeat.
Next up, make your way to FOMO
Freo, a bold lifestyle precinct in
the centre of the city where food
and fun come together. You’ll 昀椀nd
a bowling alley, arcade games, a
retro bar, mini golf, axe throwing,
and a laneway of buzzing Asian
street eats all under the one roof.
It’s the perfect meeting place for
families and friends.
From here, wander across to
South Terrace, affectionately known
as the Cappuccino Strip. With its
Italian in昀氀uence and lively energy,
this stretch of Fremantle is packed
with cafés, restaurants, pubs and
entertainment. Take your time
exploring the boutiques along
Market Street where you’ll 昀椀nd a bit
of everything, from books to local
fashion and artisan goods.
A trip to Fremantle is not
complete without a visit to the
beloved Fremantle Markets.
Operating since 1898, these
Victorian-era markets are open
Friday to Sunday and Monday
public holidays with over 150 stalls
brimming with local produce, art,
jewellery and street food. Stay
nearby at the Garde Hotel, which
is also home to Japanese-Korean
inspired restaurant Anglesea,
Emily Taylor’s delicious Asian fusion
fare and the cosy Gimlet gin bar
next door.
A short walk north (pick up
a map from the Visitor Centre
or 昀椀nd a way昀椀nding sign for
directions) takes you to the
Fremantle Arts Centre, a gothicFremantle Prison, a UNESCO
World Heritage-listed site,
housed WA’s toughest
criminals until 1991. Explore
its haunting past above
ground or venture into
convict-carved tunnels
on the eerie Tunnels Tour.
